Steven Spielberg all for a female Indiana Jones, but how will audiences react?

Indiana Jones is looking to set trends and director Steven Spielberg is reportedly considering turning the iconic character into a woman.

Harrison Ford's iconic Indiana Jones character could very well be played by a woman. Well-known and highly respected director, Steven Spielberg thinks that the legendary action character is ready for a new adventure.

Spielberg is willing to risk the wrath and fury of the fans and is of the belief that the legendary character should be played by a woman.ake on another form.

As reported by the Sun, "We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that."

The 71-year-old has been very vocal in his support of the equality of women in the industry. The fifth movie of the franchise will begin in April next year. "This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that."

Ready Player One was filmed in Birmingham, and the new Indiana Jones will be shot there too.

The director has also been very supportive of the Time's Up campaign and said,  "I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly — my mom and my wife. My mom was strong. She had a voice, she had a very strong opinion."

Spielberg will eventually decide whether he should go ahead with 'Joan' and will be upholding his belief's on gender equality in the industry.

He has also always insisted on the fact that all his lead actors are paid the same.

"Everyone was equally paid. And on The Post, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep got the same pay cheque exactly, right down to the perks."

He is hoping that this transition is able to lead the way in enforcing gender equality in the industry.

Spielberg is married to Kate Capshaw since the year 1991. The couple has have three biological children; daughters Sasha, 27 and Destry, 21 and son Sawyer, 26, and adopted kids Theo, 29, and Mikaela, 22.
